|
The Belles and Beaus program grew out of a desire for the Philharmonic Guild to honor the hard work of their members by providing a program for their sons and daughters. This program would enrich their children's lives by instilling the mothers' love for volunteerism and providing them the needed hours of community service now required by colleges today. It is a program that requires a sustained time and financial commitment and also promises great rewards. The following is a bried summary of the requirements for membership in the Belles and Beaus Programs.

n THE PROGRAM n The Symphony Belles and Beaus Program is open to ninth-grade sons and daughters of Guild members who have met the Member in Training requirements of the Abilene Philharmonic Guild during the candidate's eighth-grade year. The program will require a 5-year commitment from parents of the youth enrolled. A Prospective youth and parent will be invited at the end of the 7th grade year. A Parent must be enrolled in and successfully complete a training period (Members in Training) during the 8th grade year before their son/daughter may be accepted into the program. Currently each grade level is limited to 25. If there are opening in the 9-11 grade levels, there will be an opportunity to apply for the program. The committee will meet to determine what steps must be taken to make up for the missed years of participation by the prospective Belle/Beau and parent. If the family declines the invitation, they will not be asked again due to the program's 5 year commitment requirement. There will be no option to enter the program as a senior. The program functions through a point system where the Belles and Beaus as well as their parent accumulate red (required) points and blue (bonus) points during their commitment. At the end of their service these points will be tallied and during the annual presentation of seniors there will be one student named as the Belle/Beau Gold Medallion Winner. There is also a Silver and Bronze Medallion Winner. Special recognition and awards accompany these honors.
